Traffic bonnet release problem

Is there a way to open the bonnet of a 2008 Trafic if the cable release system is inoperative ?

I dismounted the small rectangular catch retaining plate under the bonnet(so as to paint it) then refitted it. I may have moved the plate & therefore the securing system below by a few mm in refitting it. The lock was always in place as I rotated the plate and refitted each screw so as not to loose the lock behind the radiator grille. I did not disconnect the cable.

The lock release lever under the dashboard has its full travel but fails to engage the release mechanism. There is no resistance so I have probably inadvertently disconnected the cable...

The bonnet is firmly closed & I cannot reopen it.

Hopefully there is some back up release in case of a cable failure...?

Thanks for any advice, Sean
