16V Clio for first car - 1.2 or 1.4?
I've decided that I'd like to get a Renault Clio for my first car. I'm 20, and passed my test in September. I have a budget of £2500-3000 for car+insurance.
I've spotted some nice 1.2 and 1.4 16V Dynamique models from 2003-2004 that I quite like. Most of them cost £1500-2000 but I can probably haggle it down a bit.
Insurance (2004) on the 1.2L is ~£1200, the 1.4L is ~£1350.
The car will be used for a mixture of things, but not strictly town driving. Some 100+mile motorway driving to visit girlfriend, relatives etc.
I'm really unsure whether to go for the 1.2L or 1.4L.I get that the 1.4 has a little more umph, but it seems to swallow petrol a lot quicker. It's also more expensive to insure and (generally) more expensive to buy. I learnt to drive in a small 1.0L car, it was okay but it really struggled with some hills which I found irritating.
I guess I'm just looking for some advice and secondhand opinions on the whole 1.2 vs 1.4 argument. Would appreciate your input. Thanks!
