That's actually a pretty good suggestion. The 80bhp diesels are only 2 insurance groups higher (the 65bhp ones in the same group), so I wouldn't take much of a hit there and I'd probably save in the long run.

However, finding one (and within budget) is another challenge. I'll keep my eyes out.

I'm also a bit of a car noob, what's the main difference between Diesel and Petrol engines? Disadvantages? Will I *always* have better fuel economy with a diesel, even if I was just using it around town? I know I won't be, but I'm just curious. Petrol seems to be the standard, yet aren't diesels a lot cheaper to run?

Does having a lot of torque make a big difference? The 80bhp diesel has 80Nm more torque than the 1.2L petrol, what sort of real-world difference would that make for me?
