The cable in my 2001 1.4 16V clio alize snapped the other day. The AA fitted a temporary cable and I picked up a new one from local renault dealer. I was going to fit it myself, but the cable comes in its sheath, meaning it needs routing through the engine bay and into the footwell. Has anyone done this? It looks like I'll need to remove a fair old bit of stuff to gain access to the point it passes through the bulkhead, is it worth me doing this or is it a total mare?
Also toxic emmisions light has come on after having TDC sensor fail (now replaced), is this likely to be related?
Hey, If its the steel cable you may be able to leave the rubber sheath from the old one and just slide the new steel cable through.
I managed to do this (mine was rusty and i had a sticky cable because of this!).
If not... it is tricky and fiddly but can be done.
Its easier with the air filter box removed so you can see a metal plate that goes along the back of the bulkhead this has a nut on 13mm IIRC take that off and the metal plate comes off.
If you look down the back of the engine you will see it til it disapears behind the brake master cylinder (looking down at it).
when this happens you need to get in from the wheel arch. (The plastic guard inside the wheel does come off and gives you access.
It may be easier with the wheel off but i've managed with the wheel on.
Didn't have the time to sort it myself in the end. Got the cable myself (not in stock anywhere local and had to be ordered), then got the local garage to do it. Hours labour = £40 + VAT. Job's a good'un.
how would you do it on a 1.2. panache? my accelerator cable is frayed and sticking. I need to replace it. got the part but looking for a guide to doing it. Not sure how. any help would greatly be appreciated
I've never had to do it myself, but I would disconnect both ends, tightly tie some fishing line to one end of the cable (the pedal end), and pull the cable through (from the engine side).
I'd then attach the new cable to the fishing line and pull it back through the bulkhead.
I would in addition to tying the fishing line to the cable, use a couple of cable ties to ensure it won't slip off the cable.
HI ALL
didnt want to hijack an old thread so i hope its ok using this is ok posting in here,it is throttle related
i have a clio grande mk2 1998
accelerator cable snapped,so i called renault and thats where everything has gone wrong
took them 2 days to get the so called correct part number as they said nothing was listed on there database so had to make a tech enquiry direct, fair enough i thought, anyway eventually they get back to me and say they have the part number and its on order
cable arrives i pay take it home and its too short,by about 6 inches, which when installed the pedal is so far up i can just about get my foot on it,theres absolutely no adjustment at all
the part number they gave me is 77 00 422 147 and they also told me they do not accept returns, thats another issue, anyway i spoke with them this morning and they cant do anything until at least monday afternoon which dosent really help me as its been nearly a week to get a cable
does anybody on here have any idea on the correct part number or has had any issues like mine and can advise me on the best way to get it sorted please
I have got myself out of immediate problems in past by joining a broken cable with the inner brass bit of an electrical chocolate block terminal. Depends where break is whether possible or not.
the first thing we did was laid them together and the new one is shorter
tried it anyway and it works but the pedal is too high, really awkward to drive, looked on flea bay and it also lists a different part number than the one renault tech says is the correct one
there is a local engineering company near me that make cables etc for bikes and cars
i might just take the old cable and sleeve and get them to make me a new one in the old sleeve which is in perfect condition
ive told them already that this is the incorrect part number,,,didnt seem too interested kept referring to renault tech dept
the most annoying thing is the fact they keep telling me they dont accept returns !!! even before he handed me the pdq machine to punch in my pin number he said "and i can i please draw your attention to what is written in the top right hand corner of the invoice" basically says no returns
i said to him what if its not the correct part,he said with the info you have given this will be the correct part,,,never heard so much waffle in all my life
a quick mention of "The sale of goods Act" should do the trick, always works in these situations
also its a ford dealership thats sorting this out via renault,,,,,when i went to my local reanult dealership they informed me that the local ford garage deal with all there parts sales
anyway there supposed to get back to me monday afternoon,so i will wait and see will update here
You provided them with all the information they required to correctly identify and supply the correct part.
The onus is on them to supply the correct part.
They failed to supply the correct part.
Any error is entirely down to them.
Had you ordered a specific part number then this would not apply if that is what they supplied.
But you didn't.
thanks for that dancingdad,,been a couple of years since ive needed the good old "sale of goods act" to get things sorted, will take a look at the link and get myself armed and ready for monday
update update
well i finally got myself the correct cable today, been over a week now
for the record the correct part number is 77 00 416 618
its exactly the same length etc as the original one on the car
they also took the incorrect one back and simply exchanged it for the correc onet, but he did say hes now having issues with renault taking it back off them even though they supplied the incorrect one in the first place, you couldnt make it up
thanks for the replies etc
happy motoring again
