Wink Renault Clio 2 - ABS Problems*FIXED*

My clio(2004 1.2) started to show abs and serv lights. This would clear after engine had been stopped. Took car to auto elec and was told it was teeth corroded on drive shaft rings.Read thread on changing drive shaft abs rings but decided to replace both drive shafts so bought them on ebay (cost 31.99 each).Took abs fuse out to check if this was causing brake judder (abs operating) and it was. Took car to "friendly garage and they fitted both shafts and did a mini service for 80.00.When driving out of garage noticed Toxic fume indicator on.Again read threads on resetting toxic fume indicator and low and behold after approx 50-60 miles the toxic fume indicator light went out. So now have a very happy clio and a very happy driver.
HarryL( PS when inspecting rings on drive shafts both were split so it must have been just the rust holding them on)

Re: HarryL clio abs problem

Hi have similar problem to HarryL. Heard a click sort of noise from front of car and the abs light came on. At this point the brakes seemed to be working but I cant say that I braked hard enough to need abs.

The next time I started the car the abs light was on as expected but then the light suddenly went off and the brakes felt super heavy and juddery (like the power assist had failed). After a few panicky minutes in heavy traffic the abs light came back on and the brakes started working again.

Seen something about toothed rings and sensors but don't know why this would have made the brakes so heavy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Renault Clio 2 - ABS Problems*FIXED*

had the same problem with my clio 1.2 2001.
Both rings were split and corroded and the abs sensors showed issues with all four units and was unable to get the front ones reset.
Went the other option of replacing the rings on the driveshaft ends which is a very straightforward job (if a bit problematic creating enough room to get the driveshaft ends free of the hubs) but sweat fitting both rings was easy enough. (Rings were 12 pair from ebay !) This didn't clear the issue with the ABs though.
Eventually tracked fault to the abs poump and after changing out with a tested 2nd unit all was well.
