Unhappy How easy / How do you remove and replace wiring loom?

Hi All,

I'm pretty certain the wiring loom is the biggest problem with my car.

With it being Xmas there are no garages that can carry out the work.

Anywhere know the cheapest place to buy one is? Could I just buy one from a breakers yard?

How easy is it to replace .. i'm a newbie when it comes to this sort of thing .

How do you replace? Any where on net with pic by pic explanation?

Will the Engine Management light go when problem fixed?

Thanks in advance, Chris

Haynes Manuals are usually a good place to start.
Changing the loom can be very fiddelsome and you can easily damage connectors taking the old loom off.

The wiring loom is best left to a garage if your a "newbie" even if it means waiting til next wednesday at the earliest.

They aint cheap, and a breakers yard may not have a good conditon one and may cause you more problems.

The engine management light is on because there is a fault more than likely with a sensor of some sort. It will be logged and will need a diagnostic computer to remove it.

Further to stepens answer, I am pretty good working on cars but replacing a complete wiring loom is a mammoth task, I would never attempt it.

You would probably end up with more faults than with the loom aleady in the car.

It would take a fully equiped auto electrician a few days to change the loom, even then it might not get rid of your problem.

As Geordie says, a diagnostic check should find the problem quickly, could just be a loose conection.
