As vel satisfied correctly points out, it is only approximate and will vary.
However, as a rule of thumb you normally have approx 40 miles of running left when the fuel light comes on. However, it will vary depending on current driving conditions, ( cruising will give more mpg than town driving)

Interesting point with my clio - the fuel light has been known to come on with as much as a quarter of a tank in!

Also if I stall it and have a small amount in, the light will come on when I restart.

The best I did was about 200 miles after the light came on (for no apparent reason), before needing to fill up!

Needless to say, I ignore the light and just use the gage.

Remaining Fuel Range Unknown

I have a 2002 1.5di clio. The car no longer returns the remaining fuel range just a flashing -------. The mpg, fuel used and normal fuel gauge works fine, its just the range that doesn't work.
Does anyone know what the cars uses to determine range left if all the other computer elements work ok?

Wink Plenty to go

How pompus some replies have been. The Clio has an 11 galon tank (50 Litres) which is quite large for a small car, your fuel light should come on at about the 9 gallon mark on your trip/fuel computer readout which then gives you on average at best 60 miles and at worst 30 miles to fill up before you are stranded..... I used to have a 02 1.4 Dynamique+ and the trip/fuel computer was very accurate running out bang on 11 gallons 6ft from the petrol pump. SO there is still plenty of fuel to get to the next service station on the motorway should the light come on. Hopefully that will have answered your question.
Oh one other thing sometimes if you stall it the fuel light will sometimes come on straight away at the wrong reading ignore it and just go off your trip/fuel computer reading.......... so long as you make a habit of resetting when you fill up. Now can some one explain why my 182 runs out at 10.3 gallons..........
