clio clutch!!

hi guys........hope you can help?
i have just got my son a renault clio 1.2 on a 52plate, lovely car....but the clutch is very tight and tends to slip in higher gears.
I assume it is on its last legs unless its a cable adjustment?does anyone know if it is hydraulic or how the cable works???
if i need a new clutch has anyone got any idea how long it takes and any costs involved?

thankls for your help..and great forum!!

Hi sorry a do not no if the cable can be ajusted but a clutch and kit could cost to buy from a motor factors would be 50-80 i would not go to the dealer as this will cost much more for the same clutch.An independant garage would take most of the day to do the clutch i would of thought on top of the cost for the clutch another 150-200 for labour hope this helps good luck and have a good new year when it comes.

Book times for a clutch change are;

1.2 16 valve-6 hours

1.2 8 valve-5.6 hours

The clutch kit should be around £80-£100 and add a couple of litres of gear oil too....

If you can get it done for less than £400,you've done well.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

I used to own a 52 plate Clio and the clutch began to slip on it when it had covered only 25k. Took it back to a dealer as I assumed it would be covered under warranty and was lamped with a bill for £750. Had to pay it to be able to drive the car home. Was not a happy bunny, especially when I saw the clutch components which were hardly could still see the manufacturers name on the friction faces of the clutch disk.... Anyway, to cut a long story short I pursued the matter with renault and after a little 'discussion' was sent a cheque for the cost plus a wee bit. It was clear to me that there was a fault with the pressure plate yet the dealer (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty) tried to convince Renault's warranty dep't over the phone that it was totally worn/burnt out. But Hey, this has little to do with your current dilemma other than it adds an interesting slant to it.

Sold the car last year after it had done approx 83k - almost 60k after the replacement clutch with no further problems! Now drive a Laguna diesel

Still happy with Renault....
