I think am having sort of similar problem, my clutch seems to be slipping abit, few people have said let a garage change it, but am thinking doing it myself as ive been quoted 425 for it doing and I can buy the clutch for 46.
Currently in Pickard89's garage:

Depends how able you are mechanically. 425 is a bit strong, you should be able to get it done cheaper than that, as you say parts are inexpensive although a genuine clutch will cost a bit more than 46

My pedal is almost at the top on my 2001 scenic for the last 2 years since i bought it. It works fine and doesn't slip or smell of burning and Iv'e done 20k miles, I thought they must all be like that. As for changing it myself I could do it but I don't have a spare car if I broke something when doing it.
