The garage where i got my gearbox done filled it up with oil . They came in the next morning and it was all over the floor. Had to have a new drive shaft boot. Other one had hole in it. Apparently my old gearbox hadn,t had any oil in it for quite some time. perhaps i,ll take it back and mention what you thought it could be. thanks very much

May be worth getting the gear box oil replaced. 'They have to have a very specific ammount of oil in them and its not like a normal box where you can chek the level by using the wing nut at the front of the gearbox.

My advice, take it to a local garage and ask them to replace the gearbox oil but mention that it has to be done correctly to avoid gearbox wear.

i seem to get this problem aaswel, every now n again..

as for gear box oil .. does that get changed at services at all?

my cars been serviced at right time since new but i dont know if gear box oil has ever been changed.. is it worth me getting that done?

i think it is actually a saftey feature because i have a mk 2 1.6 and my mum has a mk 2 1.2 and ihave driven both, i think it might be a saftey feature put in by reanult to stop the gearbox getting damaged, i sometimes have it but a good hard shove seems to do the trick.
