Not me then! If we get some worthwhile info together on the bonnet catch failure, I'll pass it on to Watchdog at which we could bring the turbo issue up...

I think there are 2 different issues going on here. One with the 172 Clio and one with all Clios built between 1998 and 2001???

The bonnet catch mechanism is not plastic on the Clios from 98 to 01,but the SAFTEY catch IS i.e if the bonnet isn't closed proplerly the only thing holding down the bonnet is the safety catch.

Not sure with the 172 Clios though, and I must admit,I haven't seen the Watchdog programme or had any experience of Clio bonnet problems(yet...!).

Many manufcurers use the plastic safety catches without problems.

For 172/182 owners,I will post some info re-MOT failures on rear brake load valves tomorrow. There have been many failing MOTs when they shouldn't have, but I don't have all the neccessary info with me tonight.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

I have a 54 plate Renault Grand Scenic and the same thing happened to my bonnet on the M3 at 70 mph.

The vehicle was checked 30 mins before by MOD police at Porthsmouth Dockyard. I closed the bonnet myself, dropping it from the required height. When I got onto the A3M and built up speed I saw the bonnet flutter for a split second and then crashed up into the windscreen.

Renault claimed they had no previous incidents, but when I went to pick the car up after repairs had been efected I was told that a modification had been carried out.

Sadly this was at the same time as my Mum died so I never followed it up. I have e mailed BBC Watchdog this evening to advise them it may not just be clio safty catches.

If anyone has the aforemention Clio could they please take some pictures and shed some light on the issue for the benefit of us all please.

Like above I had an earlier clio but the bonnet was hinged at the front ( thus avoiding windscreen damage ).

I beleive Lag Dti is correct and anyone with a set of eyes SHOULD perhaps notice their bonnet is not secure within the first 3 seconds of travelling at more than 30mph !

The engineers are still here ( and working bloody hard too ensure idiot proof cars are much safer to crash than your average supermini )..

For benefit of our members this is the kind of Clio in question..
