Rather pricey. It is a time consuming job, not difficult, just tedious.

The nuts can be tight if left to long with the leak, they will seize but, no need to use any DW40 or dismantling fluid, just a good 10mm spanner. First did it on my wife's Clio with a combination spanner not a ratchet type. No problems until I decided to overdo the very last bolt, slipped and sliced a tendon in my left index finger.

You must clean the surfaces well once the frame is removed. You must apply a generous bead of sealant (I used some guttering stuff I had lying around, won't harden fully but will seal it). You must be careful of sharp edges - the first time I wasn't, 6 months later and still sore. Gloves can be cumbersome and if you slip, they are a minor measure, get some thick duct tape and cover those sharp edges while you get on without worry of injury.

Other than that, if you're not so confident; using a non-ratchet spanner; like lots of cups of tea, etc, then it will take you around 3 hours (50 an hour saved), otherwise 2 at most and done right, it will last the life of the car.

Re: water in foot well and under back seat

Last weekends storms have parked themselves in the front passenger footwell and under the passenger seat of our Clio. It's dry in the rear and drivers side though.

My first though was the sunroof, but the door seal seemed wetter than it should be near the bottom edge so I'm wondering if that could be the source. I'll start to have a look asap and use a hose to see if it is coming from or through the door.

We've mopped up what we can with towels and stuff, but I've yet to pull up the carpet.

Anyone else had this in this particular part of the car and can offer suggestions?

Re: water in foot well and under back seat

I'm pretty certain theirs few members on here that have
had similar problems and i had a problem a few years ago with my old Mk1 Megane where the foot well at the
back of the drivers seat was flooded as it was coming through a hole where the seat belt was fitted to the base of the B pillar due to it filling with water from the sun roof drains as the end of the drain pipes in the front
wheel arches was clogged up behind the wheel arch liners which i had to undo and remove all the silt and leaves and took the rubbers off the end of the pipes which allowed the 2 litres of trapped water to escape so i then soaked up most of the water in the foot well with a sponge and used loads of old news papers under the carpet to absorb the remainder as i don't own a vax other wise i'd of used that lol ..

Re: water in foot well and under back seat

Hey all

I've had this issue in my Megane Coupe, and having followed what's previously been posted I'm hoping I've just sorted my leak. I took the liberty of taking a few shots while doing it; hopefully it'll help.

You'll see where I've pulled the wheel arch away, showing all the crud that's gathered over the years. Also, the location of the pipe, the rubber bit at the end (which just pulls off and reattaches just as easily), and what happens when you clear it (soaking me in the process ).

Not a lengthy task at all - took me 10 mins if that.

Hope I've helped

Re: water in foot well and under back seat

since my post on 13th dec last year when i sealed the sunroof, i've found out that the water was actually coming in from around the courtesy light switch on the door pillar. switch replaced, tape on sunroof removed...no more water coming into car.
