Loose Engine fitting?

Hi i have a clio mark11 and since i bought it there has been a load vibrating noise coming from the engine, i opened up the engine and a black cylinder shaped plastic thing, has come apart and looks like it fits together with a screw fitting however i can't see how it fits back on. i'm guesing this is the filter box??? (what looks like a filter is inside the box the other end)

can anyone confirm that this is the filter box?

any advice is much apreciated

plastic cylinder contains an air filter, its between the engine and the front window, screwed with 1 bolt - for cross screwdriver. i bought a filter for clio that was 1cm longer than the cylinder. Check that!... cut the rubber around the filter if necessary so the cylinder fits!
yu describe a load of noise! maybe something else is cousing the vibration of the engine and the loosen clyinder is just a "couse" of it! sorry my English byby
