starting problems

Its struggle to start is there fumes comming out the exhaust when you first turn it over ? it seems to me that once its lifted fuel up into the chambers it fires up so maybe theres air getting in at the engine end check filters are on corectlly and seals are air tight once its up and running is it ok.

i got same problem and more

i recently changed the TDC sensor on my cilo.. everything was well for a few days. then started back up. now my car stalls when driving and even refuses to start for a while and the organe electrical fault light flashes and comes on. i notice this problem today on my drive to work. so although it sounds like a tdc sensor problem it may not be.

I went out and brought the dam TDC sensors and fitted it. NOT THE PROBLEM.

i drive a 1.2 16v 2001 Clio. if anyone knows of my problem. please help.

Poor Starting

Sorry if this has been asked before but have just joined the forum after my Wife purchased a Clio 1.2 Expression (52 plate)and seems to be experiencing the identical fault. AA Man came out to her after being stuck in works carpark and he said that it was the immobiliser!! he then locked and unlocked the car and the engine started!!.When we bought the car we unfortunately did not have a handbook come with it,so are we just not going through the correct procedure to start the clio correctly or is something more sinister??

PS My Wife had a few problems again this morning regarding non start(unfortunately I was not present at the time to see what she was doing wrong (if anything). Can anybody suggest a solution,Cheers Trev S-J

Clio not starting

Hi am new to forum so hope i am posting in correct area!? Here goes!!

Make: Renault
Model: Clio Dynamique
Registered: Sept 02
Engine: 1.6 16V
Mileage: 29K
Full service history

I bought this car a few months ago. No problems at first until the engine management light came on and a couple of weeks later started having problems starting the car. The engine was turning over just not firing straight away. Fault code was reporting faulty TDC senosor, this was replaced and the car was starting fine.

Recently a new problem has developed where the starter motor does not even turn the engine over. I just hear a clicking noise from the glove box area when the key is turned. All of the dashboard lights come on as normal and do not dim when the key is turned which points to no current being drawn by the starter motor.

The starter motor has been checked and is fine. This fault only occurs now and again but will sometimes not start for hours. I have found locking and unlocking the car with the immobiliser will sometimes clear the problem and the car will start normally for up to 2 weeks. Key fob has had a new battery recently but I do not have a spare key to try.

I have asked my local renault delaer if they could shed any light on the problem and they have said they are sure it is not the key but possibly one of the small relays near the inside wing? I have not noticed this on any of the forums as being a possible cause so was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this problem?

Many thanks (sorry for the long spiel!!!)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I suspect you have either a bad connection to the starter from the ignition switch or an engine earth problem.Try removing the spade connector to the starter solenoid and cleaning the connection on the starter motor.

I'm sure,too,that the key isn't the problem.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
