Remote - not working

Hi cap - you have two keys one R/F and one without any form of transmission which allows the car to be used without remote locking etc., Depending on your system it may not be possible to get another receiver from the scrappie as some are programmed to suit the key. The receiver is programmed to suit the key and not the key programmed to suit the car. Clio's are prone to leaking aerials and sunroofs and the water can get in a damage the sender. This happened to my 1994 Clio and renault wanted 150 to replace the receiver - far too much in my opinion - so I just drive without it - after all my central locking still works and I have to puy my hand on the door to open it anyway.
P/S Try cleaning the receiver lens inside and out anyway.

We've only had the car for just over a fortnight - it's my missus' motor, so I'm still a newbie on Renaults! (Only ever owned Fords myself).

I'll have a good look at the sunroof and the aerial housing to make sure there is no ingress of water. Even if there is no leak at the moment, there may have been at some time in the past which could have caused the problem.

Upon your advice, I'll avoid getting a replacement receiver unit from a scrappy. Maybe I'll be able to clean up the existing receiver and make sure that all the connections/contacts are good.

Again, many thanks for your help.

heres a trick to see infra red

connect a camcorder to a tv so you can see on the tv what the camcorder is seeing, now if you point a tv remote at the lens you should see on the tv the remote flashing this is infra red, now do the same with your key fob if it flashes infra red, if it doesnt RF

hope this helps.

Not sure whether this will work on Renaults, but have you tried putting the metal bit of the key in your mouth as you press the button?

Sounds crazy, but it certainly works on my Rover 75 and a mate's BMW 3-series.

Also had, on 2 occasions, a temporary blind spot. Two of us in Tesco's carpark couldn't make our remotes work, regardless of how close we got to the car: mine at least was fine later in the day at home. Second occasion was while at home, a neighbour has a Vectra, and neither his nor mine would work. Again, OK later in the day!!

And no, neither of these is for April 1st, both are genuine.

Edit: read in a fairly recent issue of Auto Express this morning about a similar case. The car was in a multi-storey c/p, and the remote wouldn't work. The reason was that it was parked next to a wall that had been built with steel reinforcements, and this was affecting the remote signal. Car was opened using key, moved a couple of yards, remote worked.

Ditto comment about April 1st.
