Hi there, i today took off my inlet manifold to clean the motorised throttle body on my clio 2003 1.2 16v.
I cleaned the butterfly and the and the housing where the air flows through, but was i meant to clean inside the motor area? its held on with 4 clips.
I reassembled and it still has slightly rough idle and down on power throughout the rev range.
can anyone help please?
many thanks

so my car has now been to the garage 4 times for various problems...

to me it seems to be the same problem each time. the same englin management light comes on and the car does the same thing going into limp home mode.

the first time the garage said it was a plug on my ignition system. they cleared the problem off the diagnostic and said it should be ok but if there is a problem the switch would be 400 to replace.

as i thought that was a lot of money the next time the problem happened i went to a different garage and they told me it was a sensor on my brake pedal and they fixed that at a charge of 55 - that seemed reasonable.

low and behold the problem happened again so i took it back to the 2nd garage again as i thought their service was better. this time they told me i needed a new throttle body . they changed the part for me for 95 and told me my problem shouldnt occur again.

so yesterday i make my way into work, traffic is slower as its raining. it happens again, my car semi-stalls itself, the electric light comes on on the dash. i had to limp along and try re starting my car at least 4 times.

i am already sick and tired of this happening.

this time round i'm booking into a renault specialist garage for a look at. it'll cost me a lot more but i hope that they'd at least blummin well know what the problem could be.

watch this space - i'll keep you up to date on my progress.

i can't believe so many renaults, clios in particular have this problem!

its made me lose all faith in the car but allas i cannot afford to buy another car.

Hi I know exactly what you are going through!!! I am at the minute coresponding with Renault UK. Basically after three throttle bodies replaced on my clio and this car has only done 25,000 miles. My near demise (breaking down in outside lane of motorway on two occassions and then on a busy by pass) Diagnostics provided by different garages said Throttle Body !!! WRONG apparently it was the wiring loom. TOOK TECHNICAL BODS FROM GLOUCESTER TO DRIVE TO CORNWALL TO LOOK AT THIS VEHICLE TO WORK THIS OUT. GRRRRRRRRRR They now tell me it won't happen again!!!!!!!!!!! Well I have taken their word and believed them on four occasions, trusting their expertise!! I DON'T have their confidence - but then they are not risking their lives and that of their friends and families !!!!!! BUT THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THIS ISN'T A REGULAR OCCURANCE THEY KNOW NOTHING OF THIS BEING A FAULT ON CLIO'S??????????? I WOULD SUGGEST ALL OF YOU EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE ON YOUR CLIO'S TO WRITE TO RENAULT UK. HEAD OF QUALITY IS MR Y. VINCENT AND THE MANAGING DIRECTOR IS MR R. BOUCHARA. I WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED OF THE OUTCOME

have you changed your lamba sensor . the light that comes on is for the injectors isnt it . i took my car to my brother who is a car mecanic and he did diagnostics . but it told him every thing but the answer he had to test drive it and used traditional method. but that sensor causes havok with every thin . good luck. i am not a mecanic i am a car breaker.morf. i chaned my sensor after market 47 quid spot on now.

I had (or have?!) the same problem this summer just a few weeks after I bought my Clio (second hand, it was made in january 2002.) , and posted my problem on this forum. Since then the light went on (together with the "safe" mode) from time to time. Turning the engine off and on again usualy solved the problem. After a while, the problem dissapeared and I have made hundreds of kilometres on various roads and conditions for weeks.

Than, suddenly (of course) on my way to Greece, in Macedonia, in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of night, it happaned again...To cut the long story short, in a authorised Renault service in Greece they plugged in the computer and the diagnosis was that actualy those were "ghost" problems (i.e. that the "reports" of the fault(s) ) remained in the memory of the car's computer. So they reset the computer ("cleaned" the memory) and after that I had no problems with that...

...untill about 2000 km's and 10 days later. Also suddenly, while my brother-in-law tryed out the car (very gently and carefully) the light suddenly went on (of course, together with the "safe mode"). After turning the engine off and than on again, the lite went off (and the "safe mode" too) and since then, I had no more this problem. And that was about a month, and almost 1.500 kilometres ago.
