My remote isnt very responsive so Ive decided a new battery is in order, but despite best efforts I cant open the fob!!!!

Its a 99 Clio, and I have noted the little arrow on the fob and tried to slide it....wont shift.

Is it just a case of brute force and ignorance or is there a special knack (which I obviously havent got!!)?

If it's the same as the later Clio's you slide the 2 halves apart.

How I do mine is as follows. 1) Make sure there is no keyring of any sort through the hole first! 2) Hold the key in your Right hand with the arrow uppermost. 3) Put your left index finger under the key blade and your left thumb above. 4) With your right thumb push hard against the cover end (by the hole for the keyring). the 2 halvles should then slide apart.

Don't try levering anything! These are very expensive to buy and re program! If your really stuck take it to Renault spares department and they'll supply and fit the battery for you. Only takes around 10 seconds to do and I would think they'll only charge for the battery maybe a couple of quid.

Must admit the puzzled me at first but now they are just so easy to split once you have the knack!

Hi

My girlfriend has just got a Clio II 1.2 RN. The key fob wasn't operating the central locking so this thread (& others) gave me a clue what to do. However the 1st problem is the fob has no battery! Anyone tell me which way round the battery should go? Does not appear to be any + or - indications?

Thanks, Dave

On our 1999 Clio 1.2 RN the battery goes into the key so that the + faces upwards when the key has been taken apart (when fitted you can still see the larger diameter + side, the smaller diameter -ve side is not visible).

I had the key open last week as my wife had broken an egg in her pocket and the yolk had seeped in!

use a screwdriver to prize the side slightly apart working towads the back of key(fob end)
then you can slide it apart.

You will need to replace both batteriys in the key.
I done mine& it dont work lol but
my clio dont have central locking that i am aware of just the light bulb in the key

I was having real difficulty opening the fob, but found that you can slot something (I used a teaspoon - only thing to hand at the time :d ) in through the keyring hole and lever the whole top half forward in the direction of the arrow. Really doesn't take a huge amount of force to open it this way.

If your fob is sticking this is definitely the easiest way I found!
