Re: Renault Clio 1.4 8v - Info on starting problems - HELPFUL!

Bit of a puzzle as to how the radio would think there has been no power and drop the code. Does the car still start after this has happened?
Perhaps the radio fuse is suspect or loose in it's socket?

------Do you get any alternator warning lights at all?
If the battery is relatively new, yes it may fail. Have the battery and alternator checked professionally if you are not sure.
------One way to check at home yourself is if you can get hold of a volt meter, check the power of the battery with everything turned off. Should be over 12.5v+ for a healthy battery. Turn on all lights and see what the volts drop to. If they drop to around 10v, there is a problem.
Next step, leave volt meter connected and start the car, leave lights off and see what the volts read at idle then rev the car to about 2500rpm(may need help to do this) and see if the volts rise up to about 14 or so. If they don't rise at all by 2500rpm then the alternator is likely stuffed, causing the battery to lose charge when you drive.

Re: Renault Clio 1.4 8v - Info on starting problems - HELPFUL!

I am new to the forum but have spent some time searching for the problems that i am experiencing but have failed to find any identical.

I drive a renault Clio mk2 Y reg and am having problems when starting. After some research I am thinking it may be problems with immobiliser but all the solutions i have read about have failed to work. First problems were found when key unlocked doors as normal but car would not even turn over. Dash lights up as normal and immobiliser light goes off but nothing.
After a 20minute wait car started as normal. I had done nothing but keep trying it
Car worked fine for two weeks until next time keys unlock doors but immobiliser light flashes fast and cuts out the engine as soon as it fires or on other occasions it doesn't even fire. Can this be the same problem with diffferent symptoms or do i have two problems on my hands?

Both keys have same issues with working sometimes and not others. I have changed batteries in both and now one will never start the car and the other key will most times but not everytime.
I have tried re-syncing keys, removing fuse 21 also and all of these things work 'every now and then. ' But some times i find myself stranded for a while.

Sometimes i notice the car does seem to turn over very slowly sometimes but starts fine so could battery be dying?
All of these problems seem to occur randomly and dont seem to occur with similar temparture/weather or times of day.

I would appreciate any help people can give me as I am very close to going the expensive ranault dealer route.

Many thanks

Re: Renault Clio 1.4 8v - Info on starting problems - HELPFUL!

Hi I have just come on the forum to share my thoughts on this Clio bad starting as I have had (past tense) the same issue - but now my car starts hot, cold, sun, rain 1st kick. in fact the performance is the best its ever been now over 4 weeks.
Anyway having just fixed my laguna EGR issue having working though all the forum links and getting serious ear ache from the family about the starting - 15minute etc, I had the Brain Clio Wave - throttle body - I gave this a very good clean paying particlar attention to what I believe is the air bypass for tickover, this seems to be solenoid operated and I used a carbon cleaner product to ensure the seat is not blocked from both side of the housing. (make sure all the solvent has gone before refitting) on refitting it started 1st kick and has done so ever since.

Re: Renault Clio 1.4 8v - Info on starting problems - HELPFUL!

Hi, just got back home after a very nice RAC man fixed my clio.
About four weeks ago I had intermittant starting problems and after changing the TDC sensor for the new blue type with the new part of the loom the car has been fine.
I went out today shopping and done about 40 miles and on the way back home stopped outside a local hardwear shop, when I came out the car refused to start, I tried the connector on the TDC sensor and coil pack, the reset switch but to no avail.
I phoned the RAC, the mechanic checked and found I had no spark and also no injection pulse.
He checked fuses then went to another holder below the fuse block in the engine bay on the right side behind the headlamp, it had three relays on it, two of the side by side and one by itself, he swapped the one by itself which he said was for aircon which is not fitted on the car but they put the relay there anyway, with one of the two side by side and the car started ok.
He said it was a common fault with starting problems and along with replacing the TDC sensor I should replace the two ignition relays as well, I think they are dealer only and the number on them is :- 7700414484.
Hope this helps someone out

hi been trying yesterday for an hour to get madnoel10 no joy. This site is as bad as the car, cant work it LOL. My Renault Clio Grande is also having starting problems. It used to start like a dream for 10 years! Now it SOMETIMES wont start unless I put foot on accelerator. It also is doing the same old same old, cutting out SOMETIMES at idle. Guess its all the faulty wiring??
