Re: Changing light bulb Clio III* Fixed*

Well Smudgystatistic, I tried the battery removal method - and I have huge admiration for you for managing it in 20 minutes! I found it much more awkward than anticipated, mainly because everything is so jammed in.
Taking the battery covers off and disconnecting the battery was no problem. The smallish fusebox at the front of the battery compartment was a bit awkward, especially the cable with the 10mm nut on the right hand side. It didn't have a lot of upward 'give', so was hard to get it off its threaded post. In the end I got a shortish length of thin electrical cable which happened to be floating around in my socket set (knew it would come in useful one day!), looped it under the end of the cable connector and heaved it up and off the post. Did similar when refitting too.
I couldn't make anything like enough room just by moving the battery compartment aside (in fact it didn't really move aside at all) so I unclipped the sides from the base and squeezed it past the fuse box at the front and out altogether. I also took the plastic cover off the little electricals box to the right of the battery compartment, directly behind the back of the headlight, which only gave a bit more room but didn't take long (two smallish Torx screws).
What I did learn was that you need to fit the new bulb in its place, then clip up the wire retaining clip, then reattach the electrical connector, in that order. May seem obvious but not to everyone. It was definitely easier with the battery out of the way - no lost skin - but it did seem like a hell of a palaver just for a bulb. Also, the battery retaining clamp was a pig to refit, as it had to be manoeuvred down the narrow gap between battery and the front of the compartment. Very awkward. I ended up using a long, thin screwdriver to locate the bolt hole of the clamp over its hole, then used a couple of pieces of thick wire, bent a little at the ends, to fiddle the clamp into place before lowering the bolt into place with a pair of long-nosed pliers, then socket and bar to tighten.
I might try the bumper removal method next time, just to compare. Probably won't take me much longer.
I took a few photos as I worked, in case they were useful to anyone, but am unable to upload them for some reason. If anyone wants them, I can email. Just drop me a pm.

re bulb change in clio III

Just changed the 2 dipped beams in mkIII 2010 dci.
Yes it is a tight fit but the only things you should need to remove is your watch and other jewelry.
Remove rubber cover from unit stick your hand in and find the plug by following lead this will just pull out leaving the bulb in place which again is just pulled out.
if there is enough cable it's easier to fit the bulb into the plug and then push both back into place remembering the "lug" of the bulb goes to the top. I could do this on passanger side but drivers side didn't have enough cable so again push bulb into housing "lug" up and you will have to feel for the pins to put the plug back on.
All mkIII's are pretty tight for space due to the bonnet being so short,
I managed both in about 10 mins it is a good idea to stick a mirror down so you get an idea of where everything is the back of the light housing.

Re: Changing light bulb Clio III* Fixed*

Can anyone tell me where the headlight fuses are hidden on a 2007 Clio Extreme? The nearside dip bulb has blown - and with great difficulty it has been replaced with a new one....BUT - the light still doesn't work. I'm guessing the fuse has blown when the bulb let go - but where on earth are they? Not in the fuse box to left of the steering column - and not in the 'high power' fuse box in front of the battery where?????

Thumbs up Re: Changing light bulb Clio III* Fixed*

Anticipated a problem changing NS dipped beam bulb on my Clio3 after reading all the info. Just to confirm, as others have said, it can be done fairly easily, without resort to dismantling any of the car.
Pull off rubber cap (it's about same size as a jam jar lid), make sure its the correct one. You can now reach inside but you will need a small mirror and torch in order to see and remember the layout because it all has to be done by feel.
Foolishly I unclipped the bulb retaining spring first, (Big mistake, it became caught around the plastic terminal block and took me about 10mins to free off). So having FIRST pulled the black plastic terminal block off the back of the bulb, you can next release the bulb retainer spring, press in to unhook and hinge it down out of the way. Simply hold the bulb terminals to remove bulb. Refitting is the reversal. Flat bit and tag of the bulb to the top. Once roughly in position you can guide the bulb into place by looking through the headlight lens. Remember to only handle the bulb by its metal bits otherwise you may contaminate the glass.
Bulb H7U, 5 from GSF . As far as I can tell they all have the U suffix, just means they are UV proofed to stop the plastic outer lens discolouring.
