I just hope it's not anything too complicated or expensive.

Just a thought QUEMLAR ...... is the battery light lit up on the dash when the car is running ?

Good question Pat ..... if the alternator is dead or it's spat off the belt the car would've been running on battery power only. Now the battery's flat, it won't run for any lenght of time ...... unless the booster is attached.

I think I have CDO. It's like OCD, but with ALL THE LETTERS IN THE RIGHT ORDER

Thanks for your great replies. It ran for on hour on its own without the booster attached. I will take readings tomorrow morning. Unfortunately no break down cover. I have it myself but it won't cover other vehicles, was the first thing we checked.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the code for the radio is being requested so the battery became completely flat overnight. Does a car require a fully charged battery to run I thought once the car was running on the engine the battery was no longer in use.

Thanks again guys,

I'm afraid to say that the battery is fubar'd,I suspect it's got a dead cell inside of it.

The low voltage is preventing the car from starting or even running properly, and even if the alternator is charging spot on,the battery still won't hold it's charge.

I'm afraid you need another battery, and then you can check your alternator.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Got 10.2V with the car off, the doors would not even open. Started it with the booster and got 14.3V after taking off the booster with the car running so it seems alternator is ok. Going to go out and get a battery. Thanks for all your help.

Looks like the problem is solved now, nevertheless follow the arrow for the alternator location BTW this is on a 1600cc Meg.

Sori the pic doesn't actually show the alternator only it's location. I hope the battery sorts it tho, it's probably the cheaper option, and much easier to replace.

One final word no words.

Put and leave your side lights on while you change the battery, apparently this saves the voltage spike's screwing up the on-board computer

Good luck.
