Getting first Clio, generals questions :)

Well I have never owned a Clio, or any other Renault for that matter but we have just picked up new car for the misses, a 53 plate black 1.2 Clio 2 Extreme 3 door. I am really looking forward to getting it as we've read some great reviews & comments. I think its really well specced for a small car (sunroof & AC, CD player etc)

Now for my concerns ....

The bonnet catch thing, I vaguely remember this on Watchdog and forgot until getting on this forum that it was the Clio around the age of this one. Whats the latest, were they recalled, or is it still a "Shut you bonnet properly & keep it lubricated" kind of thing.

The gear lever shakes slightly on idle, and rattle & judders noticebly at certain times when driving. I have read this "they all do that", which is fine I guess, I am a bit worried it might be some gear linkages on their way out or something
I am not sure if its enough to walk away from the car, cos everything else is perfect

Many Thanks, go easy, I am a Noob to the site

Hi there and welcome.

Have moved your thread to a section whereby you will get more of a response from fellow owners.

All the best with your new car.

Re: Getting first Clio, generals questions :)

Was the Mark II that had the problem, I assume they have fixed the 'problem' that renault refused to acknowledge existed for the mark III which is what you are looking at!

I think all clio's have wobbly gear sticks, I have had two and they both did it

Re: Getting first Clio, generals questions :)

A 53 plate Clio will be a Mk2 won't it?.

It is definately worth keeping the safety catch on the bonnet lubricated and checking it regularly.

The gearsticks do move around a little, although excessive movement could be down to a worn engine mounting or more commonly a worn rear engine stabiliser.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
