Hi John. My feelings are that the wear on the front driveshafts would not be directly connected with the propshaft issue - its just general wear and tear. I believe it is possible to renew CV joints on their own and can be handled by a very competent DIY mechanic (but I've only seen it done by a neighbour on his Austin Maxi 30 Years ago!!). Best you check with a Renauilt dealership Parts Dept. Usually CV wears occurs with high mileage (my car is on 136000) but I do recall British Leyland did have an issue with the Austin Princess having clicking driveshafts shortly after leaving the factory!).
Hopefully someone else will pick up this thread and give more informed advice for your model of car.
