When I replaced mine, the splined bit had completely seized - when I used a puller, the splined bit stayed put, and pulled out of the wiper arm......
I had to hacksaw down, then the old bit slit open, allowing the new one to slide on (Greased!!).
Easy to know if you are applying too much pressure, the glass explodes - I think it's probably a design feature :-(
While it's off, worth stripping the bush out, and greasing. I could hardly turn mine, lovely & smooth once cleaned & greased.
