Yeah a picture or two would help.
For a scratch size touch up using a hairdryer would be ok. I've done this myself many times.
However for larger areas you need to be careful using blown hot air as it can cause the paint to dry on top before it's flashed off below. This leads to solvent pop which is tiny little bubbles that appear on the surface. These can take days to appear as the layer of paint below dries.
This is why when spray paining it's imperative that you allow the correct flash off time between coats, the flash off time is the time the solvent takes to evaporate. Even professional spray painters get this wrong at times.
That said for a scratch size touch up using a hairdryer would be ok, I've done this myself many times.
