Have you got the caliper pistons right back in? Especially if the old pads were quite worn they can be difficult to get all the way back. Usually it is enough to remove the fluid resevoir cap, making sure to put a rag around it to catch any spills, but if they still won't go back then loosen the bleed nipples as well.

The front pistons should be pushed in without twisting as this can damage the seals. The rears MUST be screwed back in to reset the handbrake adjustment otherwise the caliper will be damaged.
