First Timer Repair Project - 2002 Vauxhall Astra SXI

Vauxhall Repair Project - First Try!

Upon someone scraping my dad's car (no name or number left!) my dad phoned to tell me what happened, so to put his mind at ease (he gets overly worried.. didnt help i told him ive never done it before ), i set off to Halfords to aquire some tools:
Vauxhall 'Star Silver II' Car Spray Paint 300ml @ 6.49
Anti-Rust Primer Grey 300ML @ 6.49
Clear Lacquer 500ml @ 7.49
Project Pack 10 Sheets @ 4.99
I borrowed from a mate all of these: Stevens Body Filler 450g lol
A Selection of filling knives,
A Board for knocking up the filler on,
A Thurrock Gazette paper for protecting surrounding area and masking tape!

Anyway, upon reading forum after article after eHow and everything, i began work!

Here is the before picture, lovely eh?
I Began by taping and papering up the area to be worked on, so i decided to follow the lines of the wheel arch!

I then went about sanding down the area - dry with 40 Grit paper just to get the worse of the area nice, then followed by 80, then 120 (damp).
After which, i cleaned down the area, filled the scrapes and holes with the filler which was fun sanded it all down with 120 and 240 paper -- and gave it a spray with the Anti-Rust primer!...
But as you will see, there's still a slight dent which irritated me! So after the paint dried, i took the picture!

Then i proceeded with banging out the dent which went 'up' (if that makes scene), i then sanded it all down with 240 paper for a smooth finish and filled again, sanded it again and it ended looking like this!

After which, i left overnight to settle down and take its shape, so early morning (literally 7am) i began with 400 or 600 grit wet paper to get rid of the 'orange peel' effect left by the primer, then dried with a heat-gun on the quick, and then proceeded with adding layer after layer of the finishing coat of the silver!
- After about 5 coats which brought it to the nice colour, i then wet sanded it down lightly with 1200 paper to take off the gloss sheen (to allow to finish for the colour match procedure.. Halfords policy apparently lol) then i left the car over-night again for the silver to hold onto the bodywork, then the next afternoon, i went and sprayed on the clear lacquer a step at a time, and about 4 coats later it was DONE!.

Not bad for a first try at body repair! Total: 25.46

Any comments on the above and/or any hints tips are welcome !
