Stuck bonnet catch / broken cable

I know several people have posted on this issue, but I haven't found a complete answer. I think my originalproblem was probably a stretched release cable, but it has now broken after much tugging.

From under the car, I've managed to open the offside catch by pushing on the cable, but I can't find a way to get to the nearside catch. I can lever up the bonnet from the free side, but can't get enough access under it to free the other catch.

Any ideas anyone ??? Renault would love to charge me 80 per hour for the privilege of fixing it, but I'd rather not give them the satisfaction.

It's a 97 Laguna 2.2RtdT.

Thanks alot
