Re: Laguna Front Door Trim Removal

lag2 inner trim removal.

empty the door paocket of all junk.
get a Torx T20 screwdriver bit (2") is ideal length, a stanley knife. long thin small headed flat bladed screwdriver you might also need T25, T27, T30 bits as well.

the top triangular plastic trim behind the mirror should lever free.

undo the 2-3 torx screws in the bottom of the door card.
with the flat screwdriver prise the small round plastic cap from behind the inner door card door handle, pop it off (its got a retaining hook) use a T27/T30 Torx bit to undo the handle retaining bolt.

use the flatbladed screwdriver to remove the window control panel, there are x4 spring clips that need to be pushed in to release it from the door card. slide it in under the lip, you should find where the clips are, do driver side first, then tilt panel up and then release other side, lift panel up, undo the 3 electrical connectors. there is a white plug under the switch panel in the door card, pull it and it will unlock the door card from the door panel.

use a small flat blade screwdriver to prise the plastic door card trim away from the metal door panel along the lower plastic section.
put stanley knife in the gap and cut through the adheisive seal which runs along the inner edge of the door card.
use the screwdriver to hold the door card off the panel, keep cutting the strip until the card if free.
there is a locking clip that locks into the back of the door handle, it will unclip, there is also a hook that the door handle cable is clipped into.

once the strip is cut and the door card is free of the panel lift the door card up and you should then be able to unclip the 2 electrical connectors for the stereo speakers, pull the door window connectors and loom through the hole, unlip the interior lower courtesy lamp(twist and pull)
the door card should be free of the door.

there is a rubber/plastic bung on the end of the door, above the lock, prise it out. behind there is a torx grub screw, that screw locks the end cap of the door handle in place. undo the screw, dont remove it, once free enough the door handle end cap should easily push out, once it is out, the door handle can be slid back and removed from the door panel.

when refitting the original strip needs to be scraped out of the groove of the door card and off the inner door panel. as far as i know the replacement laguna2 adheisive strip is around 65 from dealerships.

a cheaper alternative (8) is the Laguna1 mastic strip which can be streched out a bit and placed on the door card prior to fitting to the door panel.
the mastic needs to be wide enough to bridge the gap and make it water tight. (there is enough mastic on the strip to do 2 door cards!)

do remember to remove the white plastic door card clips still stuck in the door panel, use a pair of pliers to compress and allow them to come free. refit to the green clips on the inner door card. they have to be put back together and refitted to the card as it locks it in place.

refit the window control panel to allow the window to be lowered to allow the plastic clips to be undone as you may need to remove the window if the lock mechanism has to be taken out.

have fun
