Espace 5 handbrake problem, query caliper ?
Help...The past week my 2005 grand espace 2.2 dCi auto has been flashing the handbrake warning light whenever I got out. Decided new pads would probably solve it, so today I started with the N/S rear, immediately got suspicious as the old pads were only half worn. Put the new pads in anyway, started her up , pumped the brakes for a couple of minutes to make sure the piston came out. turned off, handbrake on, and to my surprise the wheel still turned even through I could see the handbrake was pulled on fully ! It's one of these electonic handbrakes, I can actually see that the handbrake cable has pulled as far as it can go , but the wheel still turns ???? so basically I'm thinking the calipers knackered, but I don't want to take it off and go through the bleeding hassle if someone can suggest an alternative ???? Does anyone know how the handbrake operates inside the caliper ? All external parts are moving as expected, so something must have gone wrong internally ? Can someone confirm that it's possible for the internals of the handbrake mechanism to fail ???
