In my experince if normal driving and few dabs of the brake pedal don't clear the corrosion then it's time to replace the discs and pads. Most modern cars have insuffient thickness to withstand machining before the minimum thickness is reached - plus the cost of machining would probably be just as expensive as replacement.
But in all honesty it would be difficult to judge without seeing a few detailed photos.
