Where I live if any more than 25% of the braking surface of either side of a disc is corroded then it is an MOT fail.
Their reason being, even it passes the brake efficiency test the brakes will tend to suffer brake fade fairly quickly as the corroded area will not be able to disapate the heat in real life conditions when brakes may be in extended use for periods of time such as long down hill runs or steep hills.
In my opinion as the MOT brake test is only a test of the brakes efficiency over a few seconds of use and can never reflect real driving conditions.
In my area there are very few steep hills or mountains but if I lived in a mountainous area I would want the best under my foot.
