Gary ,if indeed your fluid is at the right level, you should check if the sensor in the fluid cap is clean, and if the connector to it is solid and not corroded.

Also if your break pedal is spongy, it could happen. It's air in the system that compresses and can trigger the sensor if there's enough air or fluid level is marginal.

1999 Renault Laguna Grandtour 1.6 16V RXT (now with leather seats and sat nav!) and lots of arcades under restoration
