IMHO the RAC are jumping on the bandwagon because of the popularity of the Torque android app' hoping to cash in.
Plug in bluetooth adaptors are now available for £20 or less and along with the software which only costs a couple of quid plus of course your smartphone do more or less the same thing.
Obviously most cars manufactured before 2001 don't have a 'Scart socket' as the article calls it so cannot benefit.
