If it helps, the 16" Turini alloys fitted to some of the Sport models have an ET of 38.5 and fit without problems, so an offset of 40 shouldn't be a problem.

I'd have thought fore and aft pitching a suspension control issue and don't understand why fitting bigger wheels would induce it.

Is it back to normal on the OE wheels?
