I'm sorry you and your neighbours think it was so stupid.
The logic behind it is quite simple really... if you activate your central locking with one of the front doors open the immobiliser and C/L will activate but then you have to shut the front door and this reverses the activation as a measure against accidental lockout. However this does not apply to the back doors where sometimes it is necessary to assist passengers, usually infants or young children, out of the car rendering ones hands rather full. It is contemplated in those circumstances that activating the C/L (and pocketing the key) does not constitute a danger of accidental lockout, that's why in many cases shutting a front door unlocks the system but shutting a back door doesn't.
Anyway, no harm done I trust, unless your neighbours rang 999 for the men in white coats to come and take you away haha!
