Espace III - rear brake issues

1999 2.0 16v Espace - NSR brake disk is rather rusty on the inside, outside is fine.
A couple of times I've had noise from this side when travelling at motorway speeds, and found the wheel to be rather warm when I've stopped! My cure so far has been to remove the calliper and pads, and pump the piston out, lube under the seal and then wind it back in again. This eliminates the noise for a few weeks...
I'm a bit confused about the rusty disc though, its the side the piston is on, so surely if the piston is working then it would push the pad onto the disk on this side just as much (if not more) than the other side?
