You should be fine with not disconnecting the battery. If you have the light on, simply start the car and then pull the
fuse out of the fuse box. The car will stop, them simply replace the fuse and restart. There is no wrong way to fit the sensor, if it fits both ways, then it's meant to fit both ways- just be sure that the pins fit back in the slots in the casing (the ones that hold the plug male and female ends together).
