98 RON .... 1.4 16v Megane II

Hi, just noticed today that the inside of my filler cap tell's me that my 2004 Megane II 1.4 16v can use 98 RON fuel.

Now I realise that it it would be perfectly fine to put 98 RON in without fear of any internal damage etc...., but would I see any of the benefits associated with such fuel i.e. increased throttle response and/or increased mpg

The reason I ask is that after reading a number of articles etc.. throughout the year I was under the impression that using higher octane fules with engines such as the 1.4 was a waste of time and money and such fuels only benefited 2.0 Turbo + type of engines in terms of performance and mpg
