You could ask to see their invoice for the parts ordered.
If you're not familiar with engine's yourself, ask a trusted friend, family member to have a look....the oil filter will look new and shiny, pop open the air filter box and the filter will be spotless (if new) and the oil on the dipstick will be fresh and clear, jack up one corner of the car and take of the wheel and the pads/shoes/discs etc will be new and clean, the bellhousing bolts for the clutch should look cleaner where the sockets/spanners have dislodged general dirt/grime when the gearbox was removed to fit the new clutch.
There are always strong clues when parts have been worked on if you know what to look for.
