renault 55plate handbrake

Right this too is a long shot, after my car was stolen my partner has been fixing it,its a renault megane,diesel,7 seater..
Up to now,he has done well with bits of advice off here.
Now he is stuck with another dilemma, the handbrake is still on..
i know the release is in the boot, but if he releases it, would this mean he needs to take it to a garage to get the cpu reset ( does this make sense, i am a woman after all and have little understanding of cars lol) or will it automatically all be reset when he releases handbrake..? There are no other faults showing other than this
Currently in pacmam's garage:
2005 renault megane scenic
