I've just had a quick look through some adverts and there are a fair few listed as "Karmann". I came across a website that suggest Karmann only relates to the roof design.

In any case, one of the adverts shows a 'Karmann' trim of sorts:

I think its just between the door and the rear arch. No other advert has a specific picture of this, but if you look closely to the same area on other adverts, they all seems to have something in that area which could well say 'Karmann'.

In terms of cambelt, they aren't too expensive. I see from one of your posts that you called Renault Birmingham, so if you're in Birmingham, I had mine done by an Italian car specialist who I've used for my Alfa for many many years - I can recommend him if you like. It cost me 280, which included the cambelt kit, waterpump, and the rear pads (parts and labour). This was almost 3 years ago though, so prices might have changed a bit but hopefully not by much. Mine is a 1.5dCi.
