According to web listings 98-02 models should have 26 teeth and models from about 10/02 changed to 44 teeth so you have the correct ones.
Can't say for sure on the overall size of both rings but If the wrong ones caused physical contact with the sensor, you would see no air gap and markings where things touch.

A badly rusted driveshaft joint could distort a new ring enough to cause it to touch somewhere I suppose.
