I'm fairly sure that a condition of the corrosion guarantee is a regular inspection (usually at every service), if you have proof of this - that is a large plus point.

It's worth pursuing a warranty claim regardless, as a paint inspection (measuring the thickness of the paint, and the area itself) will outline if the panel has had any form of repair work.

This will be useful if you need to return to the selling garage for some recourse.

That being said, a repair should be possible (even conceivably a DIY job), but you need to be sure that the metal around the visible rust is sound before heading down that route - again, the inspection would determine this.

I haven't heard of anyone else noticing / remarking about this problem, but in saying that - there's always a first-time for everything.
