IIRC the bendy inward side needs to face towards the inside of the car during insertion & removal, it is possible, but I've screwed up with my fair share.
Haha oh yes of course they are 'lefties' in France arnt they. Well I snapped the casing when I got it out to check on it so someone managed to get it in without snapping it. Must of been Jesus. But in all fairness I can't imagine it would cause much of a problem to the actual use of he filter as it didn't tear the filter itself. just became a bit flexible lol. And there looks to be runners for the filter to follow so once fitted it would be sturdy again. As long as it doesn't cause me a problem I don't mind snapping one or two filters.
