Leave it in somewhere, get a hire/loaner pick it up on the way back if its gonna be a long job.
Perhaps your insurance has some kind of breakdown cover even if travelling foreign and cover for replacement car?
Youre gonna have to get it fixed back home anyway.

I have the RAC cover. Can get a hire car if it becomes undriveable and get the car repatriated and returned to Glasgow.

Only thing is that the hire car stays in France so we have to cross by foot on ferry. Get another hire car in Dover though.
