Still following the American Hot Rod series on TV, when they feature the bodyshop, I'm always surprised by the intensity at which the crew sand down the coats of primer and each coat of paint, the majority by hand too.
Would I be right in saying that most of us are far too timid in rubbing down paint when spraying. Up till now I've only ever sanded the base coat to obtain a key and then sprayed several coats of paint one of top of the other without any flattening off. Needless to say my finishes havn't been quite what I hoped for, but I was never taught any different.
