Re: Renault Espace - Bodywork - Rear door won't open: Repair

Mine is a 2001 Espace and doesn't appear to have the wiper housing - any ideas how to get the lock mechanism exposed would be appreciated! Many thanks....

Re: Renault Espace - Bodywork - Rear door won't open: Repair

Hi to all, my Mk4 had exactly the same problem, To rectify, Climb in and get the seats out, look where the catch is, there is a small cut away in the plastic cover on the lock exposing a small plastic lug (mine was white), using a screwydriver to actuate this allows the door to open... remove the trim from top of rear window just held in place with clips, then remove the 2 black things that look like screws, one on each side (turning with a driver exposes head just enough to get a screwdriver under and lever out, then pull whole fixing out), remove side trims pulling away from clips again , Remove 2 more of the plastic plug/screw thingys on either end of the Long trim over wiper motor. Next job is to remove the handle on the door by extracting the centre peg from the handle using a driver or similar, the handle should now come away (might neeed abit of persuasion), remove the plastic trim over the lock now you can unclip the main bootlid/tailgate cover, exposing the internals of the door unit. Lock is held in place by the 3 outer T30 torx fixings. My particular faliure was the plastic gear inside the lock has 2 lugs on it, one had snapped off and dropped into mechanism. As luck would have it, the wire used to make mousetraps was the right size to glue through centre, back onto gear. Reassembly is the reverse sequence. Valeo part No for lock assembly is: 8200 090 483. Will try and track down replacment unit and upload some photos when I replace. Hope this helps you guys...
