Question Re: Renault Espace - Buyer's Guides - Upside / Downside

I'm due to look at a 53 plate grande espace 2.2dci is for sale locally for £2800, I think its an expression model with 85000,full mot and Tax.
Looks pretty clean but as it's over 10 years old I wondered whether that's is anything in particular I should be checking. I'm pretty handy with the spanners so basics I know already. Anything Renault related i should know?

Seems abit in overpriced to be, having checked auto trader £2300 world be more like it, any thoughts?

thanks in advance

Re: Renault Espace - Buyer's Guides - Upside / Downside

Bought a 2004 Grand Espace privately last week on a bit of a whim for £1500,

I want to use it for transporting bicycles and if you remove the 5 rear seats it should make a decent van.
It has done 80,000 miles 9 months MOT and seems to run OK, but was overdue for a service, so that's where it is today.

I use Fast Fit in Milton Keynes and have done for several years.

So now the bad news, apart from the normal items included as part of the service, it needs a diesel filter, pollen filter, synthetic oil , a new catalytic convertor as the old one is damaged, track rods ends and other steering parts, plus other bits.

The bottom line is it is costing £935.50, so not the bargain that I hoped it was going to be.

I am optimistically hoping after that lot I will get a couple of years out of it without too much extra outlay, time will tell.

Re: Renault Espace - Buyer's Guides - Upside / Downside

Hi All,

I've not long ago bought a 2005 2.2DCI Dynamique. it's 2 owners from new and cover 130k. Full service history and has oil changed every 9000 miles from new. I've had a few issues since buying it. Mostly just routine stuff to be honest, rear calliper seized, broken rear spring, Aux belt tensioner, Aux belt bottom pulley. All above are common things and not major to fix. I have just done the Cam Belt myself though. After the Timing pulley location pin had snapped and was throwing timing all over the place. No internal damage though so new pin, new tensioner and new belt all sorted.
I am very impressed with the car overall, its very comfortable, I have a really bad back so this is important. Very roomy, love the panoramic sunroof, Economy is OK averaging around 37MPG. Wish it would do more, but at nearly 2 tons can't complain really. I think the important thing is service them well and change oil regularly and it will be fine.
