Re: Espace 2007 tyre wear

I have a 55 reg 3.0dci. I first realised there was odd tyre wear when I had my G Espace in kwikfit (I know...) to have the discs and pads changed and they pointed out they rear tyre had to be replaced as it was down to the cord. This was odd I thought as I had check the middle of the tyre which was at about 5mm. I went along, looked on the ramp saw it and was amazed. I was told they can't do too much about allignment for the rear and Espaces do this anyway. Since then they have worn reasonably evenly on the back but I now run Continentals on the rear.

A month previous to this I had etyres out to replace the front tyres with Goodyear Eagle F1s at a cost of 420. Fast forward to its MOT and again despite being at 5-6mm across the middle of the tyre, the inside edge has worn through to the canvas and cord is exposed. That tyre lasted 5 months, and did LESS than 4000 miles.

The garage (non Renault) is re doing the tracking and replacing the tyre. They don't believe the tyre was defective or damaged but was down to the tracking being way out. I'll try and get some pictures tommorow.

Re: Espace 2007 tyre wear

My original message has gone - bizzare. In short my 2005 G Espace 3.0 dci is behaving exactly like Thomasg65s Espace, except the front Goodyear tyres have last less than 4000 miles/ 5 months. The inside edge is down to the canvas. The outside and middle have 5-6mil tread left. Shocking. The tyre fitter for the garage wanted the allignment doing which I agreed to and a new Goodyear is going on. I paid 420 for those front Goodyear F1s. I've got continentals on the back which are wearing well but the same thing also happened with the N/S rear (was a Goodyear again). Looks fine from when you do your daily checks but stick your right back then and it wore down to its core.

Shocking really. Potentially really really dangerous.

Re: Espace 2007 tyre wear

Just returned from Renault garage, after a 3 hr inspection, the outcome of which is that the rear axle and suspension are all fine. I was informed that the espace commonly has this type of rear tyre wear and is worse on the near side wheel, 'it's the way the car is set up'. Fortunately for me the cost of the inspection was generously picked up by Renault Uk, even though the car is out of warrantee. I will wait for the garage to send the report to renault uk and plan to follow up. As suggested by other members I will increase the rear tyre pressures and see how this effects the wear, and possibly refit the tyres from near to off-side to extend their life.

Re: Espace 2007 tyre wear

That is my problem also.
the car is a 57 plated 2.0 dci and although needing new front boots every 12k (about 12 months) the outer wear on the latest set of fronts is nothing short of a joke.

i suspect the toe and camber need correcting.

any news? how do i contct watchdog?

I have had 2 wheel alighnment checks wich shows there is a issue that is causing my tires to become bald on the outer part of the tyre and fine from the middle to the inner part of the tyre. I have read that other peole on here are having the same issue and After speaking to MIRA who will be getting back to me with some more information I feel that we should be contacting watchdog about this.
If your front tyres where having the same issue it could be fixed by adjustment.
I am trying to get enough bodies to complain about this to make a difference for us all.

I have called and spoke to Watchdog who said that we need more people to complain about this problem.

Many thanks

Re: Espace 2007 tyre wear

The fronts will be a different issue though as unlike the rears it is adjustable.

Have you had the wheel alignment checked?
