I would expect a decent experienced mechanic to ensure the battery should be disconnected when changing the dash - the risk of a voltage surge can cause serious damage to electronics. And as the dash contains numerous delicate electronics (some of which have already failed) all the more reason.
Also the code may be printed out on the paperwork for the job - most decent Renault dealers even include it an invoice for a service without requesting it.
